Police arrest 26 in overnight security raid in Katsina

Police in Katsina say 26 suspected offenders have been arrested during an overnight operation targeting criminal hotspots in the state capital.

The Katsina State Police Command said the raid, carried out in the early hours of 14 April, was based on intelligence and focused on areas identified as centres of unlawful activity.

Police spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu said the operation was led by officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, with the aim of dismantling groups linked to public disturbances.

He said the suspects are believed to be involved in offences ranging from gang activity to public nuisance.

According to the police, items recovered during the operation include ammunition, bladed weapons, tools, and several mobile phones suspected to have been stolen. Substances thought to be illegal drugs were also seized.

Mr Sadiq-Aliyu added that all 26 suspects have been charged in court following the conclusion of investigations.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, praised officers involved in the operation and said efforts to tackle crime would continue.

He also called on residents to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely information.

Separately, the state governor, Dikko Radda, signed an executive order on the same day banning thuggery locally referred to as Kauraye and Sara-suka across the metropolis.
