Nigeria, US Joint Airstrikes Kill 175 ISIS Fighters — DHQ

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters says joint counterterrorism airstrikes conducted with the United States Africa Command have killed one hundred and seventy-five ISIS fighters in the North-East.

According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the coordinated operation targeted ISIS fighters and members of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP. 

The military said the strikes destroyed terrorist checkpoints, weapons storage facilities, logistics hubs, military equipment and financial networks used to sustain insurgent activities.

The Defence Headquarters also confirmed the killing of several senior terrorist commanders, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as one of ISIS’s most prominent global operatives. 

The military said al-Minuki played a major role in terrorist financing, recruitment, logistics coordination and planning attacks targeting Nigerians and other civilians.

In the statement, Major General Uba said, “His death severely disrupts ISIS command, operational coordination and external attack networks.”

Other senior figures reportedly killed during the operation include Abd-al Wahhab, identified as an ISWAP commander responsible for coordinating attacks and propaganda operations; Abu Musa al-Mangawi, another senior ISWAP operative; and Abu al-Muthanna al-Muhajir, described as a senior media production manager and close associate of al-Minuki.

The Defence Headquarters said the operation highlights the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to intensify efforts against terrorism and restore stability across affected regions. 

The military added that operations against insurgent groups would continue until all threats to Nigeria’s national security and regional stability are neutralised.
