Police Dismantle Motorcycle-Snatching Syndicate in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command says it has dismantled a motorcycle-snatching syndicate operating across Ebonyi and neighbouring Cross River State, recovering 11 stolen motorcycles in the process.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed this in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Monday, noting that the operation followed a complaint lodged at the Central Police Station, Abakaliki.

According to the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Hope Okafor, the case began after one Mr. Ifeanyi Eze reported the theft of his motorcycle from the premises of a bank in Ikom, Cross River State.

She said, “Acting on the report and credible intelligence gathered during the investigation, operatives arrested one Emmanuel Anaeto,” adding that preliminary findings showed the suspect specialises in buying stolen motorcycles from members of the syndicate and reselling them to unsuspecting members of the public.

The police further disclosed that sustained intelligence-led operations led to the recovery of 11 motorcycles stolen at different times from various locations within Ebonyi and Cross River States.

“The command is using this medium to call on members of the public whose motorcycles were stolen to visit the Central Police Station, Abakaliki, with relevant documents for possible identification and recovery of their motorcycles,” the Commissioner added.
