Enugu Police Chief Urges Stronger Information Management in Security Operations

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Bitrus Giwa, has called for improved information management and security reporting as key tools in addressing rising threats such as terrorism, cybercrime and organised crime.

CP Giwa made the call on Tuesday during a lecture at the Enugu State Peace and Security Management Course held at the Headquarters of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu.

He was represented at the event by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who presented a paper titled Information Management and Security Reporting in Contemporary Security Operations: A Police Perspective.

According to the police chief, modern security operations rely heavily on the effective collection, processing, protection and sharing of information. He warned that delays or poor handling of intelligence could undermine operations and compromise security outcomes.

He also highlighted insider threats, unauthorised disclosure of sensitive information and weak data protection systems as major challenges facing security agencies.

CP Giwa stressed the need for stronger inter-agency cooperation, improved intelligence sharing and the adoption of secure, technology-driven reporting systems. He added that continuous training and accountability were essential to strengthening the security architecture.

“No single agency can effectively address today’s complex security challenges alone,” he said, urging collective vigilance and improved coordination among security stakeholders.

The lecture featured interactive sessions and was attended by participants from the military, police, paramilitary agencies, community leaders and youth representatives.
