Enugu Police Intensify Security Oversight as 2026 UTME Holds Across State

 

The Enugu State Police Command has ramped up security monitoring across examination centres as candidates sit for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said the Commissioner of Police, Bitrus Giwa, undertook an on-the-ground assessment of security deployments at multiple Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres spanning Nsukka, Agbani, and the Enugu metropolis. 

The inspection covered key institutions including the University of Nigeria, Institute of Management and Technology Enugu, and the Enugu State College of Education Technical, among others.

According to the statement, the exercise is part of broader efforts to ensure a secure, orderly, and disruption-free examination environment. 

Speaking after the tour, CP Giwa commended the conduct of candidates and the coordination between law enforcement, other security agencies, and JAMB officials, noting that the process has so far remained peaceful and well-organised.

He emphasised the Command’s commitment to sustaining robust security presence throughout the examination period, reiterating that inter-agency collaboration remains critical to maintaining public order.

The Police also called on candidates, parents, and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to nearby stations or designated emergency lines, as authorities seek to preempt potential security breaches.

The UTME, a critical gateway into tertiary education in Nigeria, continues nationwide under heightened security surveillance aimed at safeguarding both candidates and examination integrity.
