Golders Green Protests as Starmer Visits Amid Tensions

 

A group of protesters gathered outside the offices of the Jewish volunteer emergency service Hatzola in Golders Green on Thursday, as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in the area for a visit.

Demonstrators held placards and chanted slogans, including “Keir Starmer, Jew Harmer”, while a heavy police presence was deployed to maintain order. As the Prime Minister’s convoy entered the area, some protesters jeered and shouted “traitor”.

The visit comes weeks after an arson attack on ambulances operated by Hatzola, which serve all communities. The charity’s volunteers were also among first responders at a recent stabbing incident in the area.

Several protesters told reporters they felt increasingly unsafe as Jews in the United Kingdom, calling for stronger protection against antisemitism. Some said they were considering leaving the country, citing rising fears.

One woman drew historical parallels, saying she wondered whether her parents had felt similarly in the 1930s.
