NiMet forecasts three days of mixed sunshine and thunderstorms across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast a mix of sunny intervals and thunderstorms with moderate rainfall across parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday.

In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday, the agency said northern states will experience generally sunny skies in the mornings, with chances of thunderstorms and moderate rains later in the day, particularly over parts of Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba.

For the North Central region, NiMet predicted cloudy mornings with periods of sunshine, followed by afternoon and evening thunderstorms over states including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau.

In the southern region, the agency forecast cloudy conditions in the mornings with isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rains in several states, including Lagos, Rivers, Edo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, similar weather patterns are expected to persist nationwide, with sunny mornings in the north and increasing likelihood of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours across most regions.

NiMet advised residents to take precautionary measures, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms in some areas. It urged the public to secure loose objects, avoid sheltering under trees during rainfall, and refrain from driving in heavy rain conditions.

The agency also cautioned that high temperatures may persist, leading to thermal discomfort, and recommended adequate hydration, light clothing, and well-ventilated environments.
