Women Group Urges Mbah to Pick Female Candidate for Enugu North Senate Seat

 

A political advocacy coalition, Loudest Voice for Dr. Peter Mbah, has called on Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, to nominate a woman to fill the vacant Enugu North Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly.

The group, alongside six allied support organisations, said the move would mark a historic milestone, as no woman has ever represented the state in the Senate.

The supporting groups include City Boys Movement, Umunda Peter Mbah Worldwide, Jesus Wives Prayer Network, Women Support Women for Human Empowerment and Mentorship Initiative (WOSUWO), NCWS, and Resilience Divine Widows.

Speaking to journalists in Enugu on Saturday, the convener, Onyinye Mamah, said selecting a female candidate would promote gender inclusion and strengthen democratic representation in the state.

She argued that women from Enugu North Senatorial District, particularly in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, possess the competence and experience required to effectively represent the constituency.

According to her, the gesture would align with broader national calls for increased female participation in governance.

“Our dear governor, we the women of Enugu State love you very much. You are the pride of Enugu State,” Mamah said.

She added that while the administration had made notable strides in women inclusion, the group was “asking for more.”

Another member of the group, Mrs Ifeyinwa Ojukwu, urged political stakeholders to support the nomination of a qualified female candidate, saying it would set a positive precedent for other states.

She reaffirmed the group’s support for Governor Mbah’s administration, expressing confidence that he would consider their appeal in the interest of equity and inclusive governance.

The Enugu North senatorial seat became vacant following the death of Senator Okey Ezea, prompting discussions among political stakeholders over his successor.
