Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results

Former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, alleging widespread voter disenfranchisement.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, Amaechi described the results as “concocted,” insisting that he would only accept an outcome that reflects a free, fair, transparent and credible process.

“Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the ADC presidential primaries, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” he stated.

The former Governor of Rivers State said his position on the exercise had been consistent, adding that acceptance of any outcome was dependent on the credibility of the process.

“I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair and transparent and I stand by my word,” Amaechi said.

He further argued that the exercise failed to reflect the values the party claims to uphold, adding that nearly 80 per cent of members were allegedly prevented from voting.

Amaechi also questioned the integrity of the process, saying the African Democratic Congress was established to give Nigerians a platform to express their democratic will and promote national unity.

He added that it was unacceptable for a party that criticises vote buying and electoral malpractice to be associated with similar practices internally, including alleged vote buying, result manipulation and disenfranchisement of members.
