Enugu Govt Disowns Fake Traditional Medicine Group, Warns Public

The Enugu State Government has disowned a group allegedly extorting traditional medicine practitioners in the state under the guise of official recognition, warning members of the public to be vigilant against fraudulent activities.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Hon. Onyekwere Nwobodo, the group identified as the Association of Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Enugu State (AMTIPES) is not accredited or recognised by the state government and has no authority to act on its behalf.

The government explained that the regulation, registration, and certification of traditional medicine practitioners in Enugu State fall strictly under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in line with existing laws and approved procedures.

The statement further disclosed that reports of the group’s alleged illegal activities have been forwarded to security agencies, adding that some suspected leaders have already been arrested and are facing prosecution. The government urged traditional medicine practitioners to ignore the group and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
