The Enugu State Police Command says it has sustained its crackdown on criminal activities with the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers and the recovery of illicit substances in separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command said quantities of substances suspected to be variants of Cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs were recovered during the operations.

According to the statement, operatives attached to the Surveillance Team of the Agbani Area Command, acting on credible intelligence, raided a criminal black spot at Umuiba Nara in Nkanu East Local Government Area on May 21, 2026, at about 6:25 a.m. During the operation, police arrested a 35-year-old suspect identified as Ani James.

Police said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to engaging in the illicit sale of substances popularly known as “Loud,” “Colos,” and other variants of Cannabis sativa. Several sachets and wraps containing the suspected drugs were reportedly recovered from him.

The Command further disclosed that in an earlier operation carried out on May 16, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m., operatives acting on actionable intelligence arrested another suspect, 50-year-old Edeh Ikechukwu, from Isigwe Ugbawka in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

According to the statement, large quantities of weeds suspected to be Cannabis sativa were recovered from the suspect, who allegedly admitted to being involved in illicit drug trafficking for about five years.

The Police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and curbing illicit drug activities across the state.

He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information capable of enhancing public safety and security.
