Guterres Condemns Deadly Attack on San Diego Mosque

United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has strongly condemned the deadly attack on a mosque in San Diego, California, United States, in which three people were killed.

Police authorities said two teenage gunmen opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday, killing three men before later taking their own lives a few blocks away from the scene.

San Diego Police Chief, Scott Wahl, said at a news conference held near a neighbourhood park opposite the mosque that the incident is being treated as a hate crime. He confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

The Islamic Center of San Diego is located just east of Mission Bay, approximately 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, the UN Secretary-General described attacks on places of worship as particularly heinous and called for urgent global action against hatred and intolerance in all its forms. He extended condolences to the families of the victims, expressed solidarity with the Muslim community, and called for a full and transparent investigation into the attack.
