Katsina Police Launch Manhunt After Deadly Bandit Attack Leaves 11 Dead

Police in Katsina State have launched a manhunt for armed bandits following a series of attacks on communities in Kankia Local Government Area that left 11 people dead.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, said tactical teams had been deployed to the affected areas, with bush-combing operations and coordinated patrols ongoing to track down the attackers.

In a statement, the police said officers had earlier recorded successes against armed groups in the area, including the recovery of 205 stolen animals during a foiled cattle rustling attempt in Gadar Yan Tulu and Kartaka villages on April 29.

Police also said they repelled another attack on Matinjin village on Saturday, during which several suspects fled with gunshot injuries and eight motorcycles were recovered.

However, on Sunday, the attackers reportedly regrouped and struck Jeka da Kolo and Kwalgoro villages around midday, killing 11 residents before security forces intervened.

The commissioner described the attack as “cowardly and barbaric” and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

He assured residents that those responsible would be arrested and prosecuted, urging the public to remain calm and provide useful intelligence to security agencies.
