Obidient Movement urges calm amid Obi realignment talks

The Obidient Movement has called for calm among its supporters amid growing speculation over a possible political realignment involving Peter Obi and other opposition figures.

In a statement posted on X on Saturday, the movement’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, said Obi was engaged in consultations with political allies and key stakeholders to determine what he described as “the most strategic and effective path forward” for Nigerians.

“The Obidient Movement acknowledges the growing concerns and widespread reports regarding recent political developments and evolving engagements with current and potential partners,” the statement said.

It urged supporters to remain calm and avoid reacting to unverified claims, stressing that Obi remained committed to the movement’s objectives and would, in due course, address the public to clarify the situation and outline the way forward.

The group added that ongoing consultations were being guided by its core principles of integrity, accountability and citizen participation, noting that any eventual decision would align with its vision of building a “New Nigeria.”

The statement comes amid reports of a potential opposition realignment involving Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the next election cycle. Sources have indicated that discussions are ongoing around a possible new political platform linked to former Bayelsa State governor Seriake Dickson, although no official confirmation has been made.

The speculation follows growing discontent within sections of the opposition over internal party structures, as well as uncertainty arising from recent rulings by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which returned several leadership disputes to the Federal High Court.

These developments have heightened tensions within opposition ranks as political actors consider their options ahead of the next election cycle.
