Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Prof as New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose tenure ends on July 31.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is a Computer Engineering scholar and systems expert with experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure, institutional reform, and technology-driven public sector transformation.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, and obtained both his Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina began his association with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early experience in admissions administration and institutional systems management.

According to the Presidency, those experiences influenced his long-term involvement in examination reforms, systems optimisation, and digital educational administration across Nigeria’s public sector institutions.

With more than 15 years of professional experience, Aina has worked at the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on digital transition and systems reform initiatives.

At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar ever appointed to lead Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

He has also served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, as well as several state ministries of education on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.

Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Bola Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would use his technical expertise and institutional knowledge to consolidate ongoing reforms and improve operational efficiency at JAMB.

The President also commended Professor Is-haq Oloyede for his service and achievements, expressing optimism that the incoming registrar would sustain and surpass the standards established at the board.
