The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr. Bitrus Giwa, has commended workers for their contributions to national development, as Nigeria marks the International Workers’ Day 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the police chief praised workers across the state and the country for what he described as their “resilience, discipline and invaluable contributions” to peace, social stability and economic growth.
Mr Giwa said the role of workers remains vital in sustaining order and driving development, despite ongoing security and economic challenges. He stressed that a secure environment is essential for productivity and national progress.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and strengthening safety measures, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to enable them to go about their lawful activities without fear.
The commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and law-abiding, and to report any suspicious activities to the police through official channels.
He wished workers a safe and rewarding May Day celebration.
