ENSG vows to sanction sanitation offenders

The Enugu State Government has warned that it will sanction violators of environmental sanitation regulations, particularly those who fail to comply with the state's monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The Managing Director of the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA), Mr. Richard Onaga, gave the warning on Friday while announcing the June statewide monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, June 27, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Onaga said the state's Environmental Sanitation Mobile Court would be in operation throughout the exercise to ensure compliance with sanitation laws.

He said, "The Environmental Sanitation Mobile Court will be in operation, and violators of sanitation regulations will be sanctioned in accordance with the law."

The ESWAMA boss urged residents to participate actively in the exercise, noting that there would be a restriction of movement across the state during the sanitation period.

He said, "Only personnel on essential duties and those duly authorised with valid means of identification or official permits will be exempted.

"Residents are expected to actively participate by cleaning their homes, business premises, drainage channels and surrounding environments.

"All commercial activities, sporting activities, and loading or off-loading operations in motor parks are to remain suspended during the exercise."

Onaga also reminded residents and business operators that payment of the 2026 Environmental Sanitation Rate was still ongoing.

He said payments should be made at designated banks or at the ESWAMA Headquarters, No. 7 Ridgeway, State Secretariat, GRA, Enugu.
