Ohanaeze Demands Immediate Rescue of Kidnapped Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has called for the immediate rescue of pupils, students, and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State by armed criminals.

The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, made the demand in a statement issued on Sunday in Enugu. He said the killing of teachers during and after the attack had further escalated the severity of the incident.

According to him, the organisation received the abduction of 39 pupils and seven teachers from schools in Oriire Council Area with “profound shock and concern,” describing it as a direct attack on innocent children and the future of the nation.

“The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation unequivocally condemns this barbaric and inhuman act, which represents a direct assault on innocent children, education, and the collective future of our nation,” he said, quoting the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata.

Mbata stressed that the sanctity of human life must never be subjected to criminal cruelty, adding that the abduction of schoolchildren represents an assault on the hopes of families and the nation’s future.

He noted that no society can make meaningful progress when children live in fear and schools are targeted by violence, insisting that the rescue of the victims must be treated as a national priority.

“The immediate rescue of these innocent children and their teachers must be treated as a national priority,” Mbata said.

Ohanaeze extended its solidarity to the affected families as well as the Government and people of Oyo State.

“We call on the Federal Government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to intensify efforts to ensure the immediate and safe release of all the victims and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice,” he said.

Mbata further stated that the protection of children and educational institutions must remain a matter of urgent national concern.
