Soludo Tours Nnewi, Targets Abandoned Assets and Infrastructure Deficits

Years of abandoned public facilities, underutilised spaces and ageing infrastructure in Nnewi have prompted a fresh intervention by the Anambra State Government, as Governor Chukwuma Soludo embarked on an inspection tour of key locations across the industrial city.

The Governor visited several sites considered critical to Nnewi's economic and urban development, including a shopping mall at the Nkwo Nnewi Triangle which residents say has remained abandoned for about seventeen years. 

He expressed concern over the prolonged neglect of the facility and said efforts would be made to return the property to productive use.

The tour also took him to the Post Office area and the vicinity of court facilities, where he assessed infrastructure challenges and opportunities for urban renewal. 

Governor Soludo said improving public spaces and upgrading critical infrastructure remain essential to the government's broader plan of modernising cities across the state.

The Governor further inspected potential housing development sites and reiterated his administration's commitment to addressing the city's growing residential needs. 

He noted that quality housing and improved infrastructure are necessary to support Nnewi's expanding population and economic activities.

Speaking during the inspection, Governor Soludo said the state government is identifying underutilised public spaces that can be transformed into productive assets, including parks, recreational centres and commercial facilities. 

According to him, the initiative is aimed at stimulating economic activities, improving urban planning and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

The visit forms part of the state's wider urban regeneration programme, which seeks to revitalise public infrastructure, attract investment and strengthen Nnewi's position as one of Nigeria's leading commercial and industrial centres.

Residents and stakeholders expressed optimism that the inspection would lead to the commencement of redevelopment projects capable of unlocking economic opportunities and improving public services across the city.
