US to Closely Monitor Nigeria's 2027 Elections — Congressman
The United States says it will closely monitor Nigeria's 2027 general election, with a member of the US Congress, Representative Riley Moore, indicating that Washington will pay particular attention to both the conduct of the electoral process and its outcome.
Moore made the remarks during an interview with Noire TV on Saturday when asked whether the United States was aware of Nigeria's forthcoming general election and if it would provide any political support.
Responding, the Republican lawmaker said the United States was already looking ahead to the polls and would closely observe how the elections are conducted.
"We will be paying close attention to Nigeria's 2027 election," Moore said.
He added that the United States would be interested not only in the outcome of the elections but also in the credibility and execution of the electoral process.
"We are certainly going to be watching these results and how these elections will unfold and how they are executed, and that's something that myself and my administration will pay very close attention to," he stated.
Although the congressman did not elaborate on what form such monitoring would take, his comments underscore continued international interest in Nigeria's democratic process ahead of the 2027 elections.
The United States has historically expressed support for credible, transparent and peaceful elections in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, often encouraging adherence to democratic principles, the rule of law and respect for the will of the electorate.
