Two police officers attached to the Imo State Police Command have died following a road traffic accident involving seven operatives along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.
The Command has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Command, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to him, the accident occurred on June 29, 2026, while the seven police personnel were on official duty along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.
Okoye said two of the officers later died while receiving medical treatment, while the remaining five are currently hospitalised and undergoing treatment.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, had directed that all necessary medical care and welfare support be provided to the injured officers.
"The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road traffic accident involving seven personnel of the Command who were on official duty on June 29, 2026, along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State," Okoye said.
"Regrettably, two of the officers later succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical treatment, while the other injured personnel are currently undergoing treatment. The Commissioner of Police has directed that every necessary medical and welfare support be provided to the injured officers to aid their recovery."
Okoye said the police commissioner described the deaths as a painful loss to both the Command and the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the officers' dedication and sacrifice in the line of duty would always be remembered.
"On behalf of the officers and men of the Imo State Police Command, the Commissioner extends his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased officers. He also prays for the speedy and full recovery of the injured personnel and assures their families of the Command's unwavering support during this difficult period."
He further stated that the Command had commenced a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
"The Command has commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident. The Imo State Police Command prays for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed officers and urges members of the public to keep their families and the injured personnel in their thoughts and prayers."
The Command did not disclose the identities of the deceased officers or the five injured personnel.
