Findings from an independent fact-finding assessment indicate that the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, has recorded significant progress in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and public administration, positioning the Council among the leading Local Government Areas in Enugu State in terms of project execution.
The assessment observed that the Council's development trajectory aligns closely with the administration's agenda of Gov. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose governance blueprint emphasizes quality infrastructure, improved education, accessible healthcare, and sustainable grassroots development.
Across the Local Government area, multiple infrastructure projects are either completed or at advanced stages of execution. Road construction, drainage systems, and water projects are visible in several communities, while plans are underway to expand access to potable water across nearly all communities within the Council Area.
One of the administration's most notable achievements is the early completion of the Smart Green School projects. Investigations revealed that Nkanu West became the first among the seventeen Local Government Areas in Enugu State to complete all the Smart Green Schools in accordance with the State Government's specifications.
The schools have reportedly been in operation for nearly three months, ahead of the September completion timeline earlier set by Governor Mbah for all Local Government Areas.
The successful delivery of the projects has been attributed partly to effective collaboration between the Local Government administration and project Contractors. Industry stakeholders acknowledged the contributions of CDV Properties and 34V Engineering Ltd, describing the quality and timely execution of the projects as commendable.
The Council has also made measurable progress in the healthcare sector. Several Type II Primary Healthcare Centres have been completed, fully equipped, and are already providing services to residents. The pace of implementation places Nkanu West among the leading Local Government Areas in the execution of the State's primary healthcare reform programme.
Infrastructure development has equally remained a major focus of the administration. Available records indicate that over 10 kilometres of roads with modern drainage facilities have been completed within approximately eighteen months. Residents interviewed during the assessment expressed optimism that the current momentum would be sustained if additional opportunities for project implementation arise in the future.
The investigation further found that the administration has established channels for citizen engagement and feedback, with Community members reporting regular interactions with Government officials on issues affecting their localities. This approach has contributed to perceptions of openness and responsiveness in governance.
Engineers and Contractors handling projects within the Council Area also expressed satisfaction with the Local Government's working relationship, citing prompt communication, adherence to agreed standards, and an enabling environment for project execution.
Earlier in the week, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah publicly commended the Chairman's performance during an official engagement, expressing confidence in his leadership and announcing plans to recognize his developmental efforts with a State award.
Observers believe that the combination of strategic planning, timely project delivery, and collaboration with stakeholders has contributed to the Council's growing reputation as one of the State's high-performing Local Government administrations.
As Enugu State continues to pursue its ambitious development agenda, Nkanu West is increasingly being cited as an example of how effective local Governance can complement State policies and accelerate development at the grassroots.
