Jonathan meets Tinubu at Aso Villa

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, in what officials describe as part of ongoing consultations on West African political developments and regional diplomacy.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, began around 4pm in the President’s office on the first floor of the Aso Villa. Presidency sources confirmed the visit, with presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga sharing photographs of the encounter on social media platform X.

The images showed both leaders in a relaxed discussion. A document marked “Two-Year Milestone” was also visible in the background, though no official details were released on the substance of their talks.

It was the second known visit by Mr Jonathan to the Presidential Villa in five months, following a previous engagement in November 2025.

Since leaving office in 2015, Mr Jonathan has played an active role in regional mediation and election observation across West Africa, including assignments in The Gambia, Liberia, Mali and Guinea-Bissau under the West African Elders Forum.

In November 2025, he was briefly evacuated from Guinea-Bissau following a military coup during an election period, an incident that also prompted high-level regional diplomatic responses.

Wednesday’s meeting comes at a time of heightened political activity across West Africa, with Nigeria maintaining a central role in regional peace and democratic stability efforts.

No official communiqué was issued after the meeting.
