Kano crash leaves two dead and 20 injured, FRSC says

 

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says two people have died and 20 others were injured in a road crash in Kano State.

In a statement, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Idris Muhammed-Lawan, said the accident happened at Wudil T-Junction along Maiduguri Road on Saturday morning.

According to the statement, officials received a distress call at about 09:25 local time and arrived at the scene within 10 minutes.

The crash involved a DAF trailer carrying goods and passengers from Wudil Market en route to Lagos. The FRSC said all 30 passengers on board were adult men.

“Two persons lost their lives, 20 sustained varying degrees of injuries, while eight were unhurt,” the statement said.

Preliminary findings suggest the driver lost control due to excessive speed while approaching the junction and collided with a stationary vehicle by the roadside.

The injured victims were taken to Wudil General Hospital for treatment.

Mr Muhammed-Lawan expressed concern over the continued violation of road safety regulations, particularly the use of trailers to transport passengers.

He warned that speeding and overloading remain leading causes of road traffic crashes and urged motorists to adhere strictly to safety rules. He also advised the public to avoid boarding unsafe vehicles.
