Police in Enugu arrest suspect, recover stolen tricycle within hours

Police in Enugu State say they have arrested a 30-year-old man and recovered a stolen tricycle just hours after it was reported missing.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, operatives attached to the Trans-Ekulu Division acted swiftly after receiving a complaint from the vehicle’s custodian. 

The complainant had reported that the tricycle was stolen in the early hours of 18 April 2026 after being parked outside his residence in the Trans-Ekulu area.

Police say the report was logged at about 10:00 a.m., prompting an immediate response. Information about the theft was circulated through the Command’s control room, enabling officers to track and recover the vehicle along Nike Road in Abakpa-Nike within a short time.

The suspect, identified as Ibeabuchi Ifeanyi Collins, was arrested in possession of the tricycle. Police say he has confessed to the theft, attributing his actions to financial hardship. 

He is expected to be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the officers involved for their rapid response and coordination, which led to the recovery of the vehicle. 

He also urged residents to take basic precautions to secure their property, reiterating the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
