Obi, Kwankwaso supporters launch ‘OK Movement’ ahead of ADC presidential primary

 

Supporters of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and ex-Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso have launched a new political coalition known as the OK Movement ahead of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary for the 2027 general election.

The group announced its formation in Abuja on Monday, saying it has established structures across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with coordinators appointed to oversee mobilisation efforts.

According to its National Publicity Secretary, Justin Ijeh, the movement brings together supporters from the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya blocs, as well as members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the ADC.

He said the initiative is aimed at driving national reform and political realignment ahead of the next general election, amid growing economic hardship and insecurity.

The movement also said it rejects ethnic and religious divisions in politics, describing itself as an inclusive platform for national renewal.

A representative of the Obidient Movement confirmed alignment with the new coalition, saying both groups are working towards a common political direction within the ADC.

The development comes amid growing internal tension within the ADC over emerging presidential ambitions, including that of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has insisted he will contest the party’s primary.

Other prominent figures linked to the ADC presidential race include former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi and ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The ADC is expected to hold its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 elections as political realignments continue across opposition parties.
