Soludo Appoints Three Senior Doctors to Head Anambra Health Agencies

 

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has approved the appointment of three senior medical professionals to head key health institutions in the state, in what officials say is part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the appointees are Dr Augustine Uwaeme, Dr Obianuju Okoye, and Dr Hillary Okeke. Dr Uwaeme has been named Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr Okoye will serve as Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, while Dr Okeke is appointed Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency.

Dr Augustine Uwaeme is described as a seasoned medical practitioner with over 22 years of experience in medicine and surgery, with a background spanning clinical practice, healthcare management, and medical administration. He is said to have trained in several institutions, including Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, USA, the Jefferson Ultrasound Radiology and Education Institute, New Delhi, India, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and the University of Ilorin.

Dr Obianuju Okoye is also an experienced medical practitioner with administrative and clinical expertise across both hospital and public health systems, alongside training experience in healthcare delivery.

Dr Hillary Okeke is an award-winning medical professional and academic with experience in clinical practice and teaching. He holds an MBBS degree from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and a Master’s degree in Public Health. His work is said to include research in epidemiology, global health management, and community health, and he has presented papers at several conferences.

The statement said the appointments are expected to boost coordination and efficiency in Anambra’s health sector, as the administration continues its reforms in the sector.
