Trump extends Israel–Lebanon ceasefire by three weeks, says Iran talks will not be rushed

 

Donald Trump has announced that the Israel–Lebanon ceasefire will be extended by three weeks following talks at the White House.

Earlier, speaking to the BBC, the US president said: “whatever I’m doing, it seems to be working very well,” when asked about his threats directed at Iran’s “civilisation.”

Later in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters he was “not in a rush” to reach a deal with Iran.

Meanwhile, the US military says American forces have boarded a vessel carrying Iranian oil in the Indian Ocean.

Trump also claimed the United States has “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz, warning that forces would “shoot and kill” any boats laying mines there.

In Iran, senior officials have spoken of “iron unity” in response to Trump’s claims of internal divisions within the country’s leadership.

Israel’s defence minister, meanwhile, said the country is prepared to resume military action against Iran if given the green light by the United States, adding a warning that Iran could be returned “to the dark and stone ages.”
