Tinubu appoints Bianca Ojukwu as foreign affairs minister

President Bola Tinubu, has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The appointment follows the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ms Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to lead Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement at a time the government says it is seeking to strengthen international partnerships.

In a related development, the president has nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Mr Enikanolaiye, a career diplomat, previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He has also held several senior roles, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi.

According to the presidency, the appointments form part of efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy for greater efficiency and strategic engagement.

President Tinubu urged the new appointees to promote Nigeria’s national interests, advance economic diplomacy and safeguard the welfare of citizens at home and abroad. (Source: Vanguard News)
