Tinubu Approves New Police Academy Campus, Releases ₦15bn Take-Off Grant

 

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a ₦15 billion take-off grant.

According to a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the funding will be drawn from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2026 allocation. 

The resources are expected to support key infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and core training equipment.

The new campus forms part of the implementation of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the institution, currently based in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses across the country.

The statement said the location in Ogun State was selected following a consultative meeting involving officials from the Ministries of Police Affairs and Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Universities Commission (NUC). The decision, it added, was based on factors including student capacity, funding, academic standards, and long-term manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.

Tinubu said the expansion would strengthen police training, institutional development, and national security, particularly at a time of increased recruitment into the force.

The approval comes months after the President declared a security emergency and ordered the recruitment of additional police personnel, alongside measures to expand training infrastructure nationwide.
