UNIZIK Appoints Sun Correspondent Aloysius Attah as New Spokesman

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has appointed Mr. Aloysius Emeka Attah, a correspondent of The Sun Newspapers in Anambra State, as its new Director of Information and Public Relations.

Attah’s appointment was approved by the University’s Governing Council, marking a significant step in strengthening the institution’s strategic communication framework.

A seasoned public relations practitioner, journalist, political scientist, investigative reporter, information manager, and civil society leader, Attah brings nearly two decades of experience to his new role. Until his appointment, he served as Chief Correspondent of The Sun, covering the five South-East states with distinction.

In his new capacity, Attah is expected to provide strategic leadership in public relations and communication for the university. His responsibilities will include enhancing media engagement, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, and shaping a compelling institutional narrative.

He will also coordinate communication across key audiences, ensuring that the university’s policies, programmes, and achievements are translated into clear, relatable messages that promote understanding, trust, and active participation.

Notably, Attah has closely reported and projected the activities of the university for over 16 years, positioning him as a familiar and credible voice within its academic community.

An alumnus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, where he earned a degree in Political Science, Attah also holds a Master’s degree in the same discipline from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. He was inducted as an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in 2018 and attained full membership in 2024 after completing the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme.

A respected figure in media, public relations, and civil society advocacy, Attah has reported extensively across multiple beats, including education, culture, economy, human interest, business, entertainment, and politics.

His excellence in journalism has earned him several accolades, including the 2025 Star Prize (Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Prize for Ethical Reporting) by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council; the Rukyatu Danjuma Prize for Public Health Reporter of the Year at the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA); and the Best Correspondent of the Year award by the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Anambra State.

Beyond journalism, Attah has held numerous leadership and professional roles. He is a member of the Nigeria Investigative Journalists Network (MNIJN) and the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel. He also serves on the Human Research Ethics Committee and other institutional boards at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

His leadership extends to civil society and faith-based organisations, including serving as Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), South-East Zone (2018–2026), and previously as Chairman of the CLO in Anambra State (2009–2015). He is also Chairman of the Catholic Media Practitioners of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Onitsha Archdiocese.

Attah has contributed to various editorial and advisory platforms, including Youth Advisor Magazine and Pentascope Magazine, and has participated in national election observation initiatives under the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).

A widely travelled professional, he has attended several trainings, workshops, and summits on communication, media, public relations, and civil society engagement.

He believes that Nnamdi Azikiwe University can be repositioned as Africa’s most visible, credible, and globally respected citadel of learning through strategic communication, innovative public relations, and purposeful storytelling that amplifies the institution’s excellence, global impact, and brand visibility.
