US–Iran talks loom in Pakistan as Israel–Hezbollah clashes continue

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, is currently in Pakistan, although an Iranian official has confirmed there are no plans for direct talks with the United States.

The White House says US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, are travelling to Pakistan for discussions on Iran, with Vice-President JD Vance on standby to join the talks if needed.

President Trump said on Friday that Iran was “making an offer and we’ll have to see,” but noted that the details of the proposal remain unclear.

The key question, according to our Washington correspondent, is how much progress can realistically be achieved during the Pakistan talks.

Meanwhile, clashes between the Israeli military and Hezbollah have continued, with both sides accusing each other of breaching a recently extended ceasefire.
