“Beyond Children’s Day, We Must Invest in Their Future” — Ugochi Otti

Hundreds of children across Abia State benefited from an outreach programme held to mark the 2026 Children’s Day, with organisers urging sustained investment in child welfare beyond annual commemorations.

The Abia Children’s Day Outreach 2026 featured the distribution of educational materials, provision of healthcare support, feeding initiatives, recreational activities, and gift items to participating children. Many of the beneficiaries were drawn from underserved communities across the state.

The programme brought together community leaders, volunteers, educators, and development partners. It was coordinated by Mrs. Ugochi Otti Essienette, who emphasised that the welfare of children must remain a continuous commitment rather than a once-a-year celebration.

“Beyond Children’s Day, we must invest in their future,” she said, underscoring the need for consistent support to help children build confidence, access education, and achieve their potential.

“Children are the pride of every society and the leaders of tomorrow,” she added. “Through this outreach, we seek not only to celebrate them on Children’s Day but also to provide meaningful support that will inspire hope, encourage learning and strengthen their confidence to pursue their dreams.”

Parents and guardians who attended the event expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely support for children’s education and welfare amid rising economic pressures on families.

Organisers said the initiative highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between government institutions, civil society organisations, private sector actors, and development partners in addressing challenges affecting children.

They also called for increased and sustained investment in education, healthcare, and child protection systems to ensure equal opportunities for children across Abia State.

Mrs. Otti reaffirmed plans to expand future interventions aimed at reaching more vulnerable children and strengthening inclusive development across communities in the state.
