Fans, colleagues mourn Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo

Fans, colleagues and industry figures have continued to express grief following the reported death of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, with tributes pouring in across social media platforms.

Ekubo was said to have died after complications arising from a prolonged battle with cancer, according to reports shared by family sources and colleagues in the entertainment industry.

His passing has sparked widespread reactions online, with many describing the development as “shocking,” “devastating,” and “difficult to process.”

One fan on X (formerly Twitter), @MrRekindledAFC, wrote:

“Is this some kind of late April Fool joke? God, what kind of news is this? Rest in peace, bro. I don’t even know what to type.”

Another user, @PerpetuaEbubech, said the news had left her reflecting on life:

“Rest well, Alex. I’m done pressurising myself and being ungrateful. Being alive is enough.”

Similarly, @AmedOshiorenua described the news in simple terms:

“This one hurts me ooo.”

Others reflected on mortality and the fragility of life. @sheismirah_bakr wrote:

Actress Funke Akindele, in an emotional post, said she had hoped to see him before his passing:

Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo also paid tribute, describing Ekubo as a gifted performer:

Actor Bolanle Ninalowo wrote briefly:

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also described Ekubo as a “rare talent,” noting his screen presence:

“I never met him personally, but I cannot forget a movie I watched on an Emirates flight. He was a rare talent whose presence lit up the screen effortlessly. May he rest in power.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ekubo, born on 10 April 1986, was widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most recognisable actors, known for his roles in several popular films and television productions.

His prolonged absence from public appearances in recent years had sparked concern among fans, particularly as he had been largely inactive on social media since late 2024.

His final Instagram post was reportedly made in December 2024, following earlier reports concerning the cancellation of his engagement to US-based model Fancy Acholonu.
