NDC Reacts to Enugu Primary Results, Dismisses Social Media Outcome as Fake

The national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disowned results purportedly emanating from its primary elections in Enugu State, describing reports circulating on social media as fake and unauthorised.

The party, however, maintained that it successfully conducted free, fair and credible direct primary elections across the state on Friday.

Addressing journalists in Enugu on Sunday, the National Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Ikenna Morgan, said the primaries were conducted through a direct voting system, allowing eligible party members to elect candidates for various positions, including the presidency, governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats.

Morgan stated that the exercise complied fully with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution, adding that it was supervised by the party’s National Electoral Committee from Abuja and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The Nigeria Democratic Congress successfully conducted its primary elections in Enugu State on Friday, May 29, 2026.

“The process was monitored by our National Electoral Committee and observed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The exercise was orderly, transparent and conducted in line with the Electoral Act and the constitution of our great party,” Morgan said.

The NDC national secretary explained that vote collation and verification had been concluded but stressed that the official results remained with the appropriate party authorities and would only be released through constitutionally recognised channels.

“This will only be made public through recognised constitutional channels,” he said.

Morgan urged aspirants, party members and the public to disregard any unofficial results circulating online, insisting that no authorised declaration had yet been made by the party.

“The results of the primary elections have been duly collated by the party.

“However, contrary to several reports circulating online, no official announcement has yet been made by the National Electoral Committee or the national leadership of the party.

“Any individual or platform claiming to possess or announce official results is acting without authorisation,” he added.

He assured all aspirants of the party’s commitment to transparency, fairness and due process throughout the nomination process.

According to him, the names of successful candidates would be formally transmitted to INEC after the completion of all internal administrative procedures and ratification processes, in compliance with statutory requirements.

The clarification follows reports published by some social media platforms on Friday claiming to have the outcomes of the NDC primaries in Enugu State.

The party alleged that the purported results were being circulated by a faction led by JohnPaul Anih, which claims to be the authentic leadership of the party in the state.

The NDC national leadership said it had already disowned the faction, insisting it does not represent the party, while reaffirming Ibuchukwu Obetta as the duly recognised chairman of the party in Enugu State.
