Oyo Attack: Burial of Slain Teacher Begins

Burial arrangements have commenced for late Adesiyan Adegboye, one of the teachers killed during the coordinated attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The burial ceremony began on Friday at Ayegun Baptist Church, Ogbomoso, with family members, colleagues, and sympathisers paying their last respects. 

The deceased, aged 49, is scheduled to be laid to rest later in the day at his residence in the Owolake area of Ogbomoso.

According to The Punch, Adegboye was killed on the spot during last Friday’s attack when armed assailants invaded three schools, including Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School; and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, at about 9:30 a.m. during coordinated abductions.

The report stated that teachers and pupils were abducted during the attacks, which triggered widespread panic across Ogbomoso and surrounding communities, forcing parents to withdraw their children from schools.

Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, visited the scene and deployed additional detectives from Force Headquarters, Abuja, to support ongoing rescue operations alongside other security agencies.

According to the Oyo State Government, seven students were abducted from Community Secondary School, while 18 pupils and seven teachers were kidnapped from First Baptist Primary and Nursery School, bringing renewed concern over school safety in the region.

Governor Seyi Makinde also confirmed that one person was killed during the attack, which sparked temporary school closures and security alerts across affected communities amid fears of further infiltration.

The police have assured that coordinated rescue operations are ongoing to secure the release of the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
