Soludo: Awka Deserves Palace For Generations

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has unveiled plans to build a grand central palace for Awka, declaring that the capital city deserves a lasting cultural and traditional monument for generations to come.

Soludo made the announcement during a solidarity visit to the traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, as part of activities marking the annual Imo Awka festival.

The governor said the proposed palace would serve as a unifying symbol for the people of Awka and a lasting legacy for future generations.

“Awka deserves a central palace that generations unborn will use,” Soludo said. “We will repair Awka. Ndị Awka, let us get it done. We will lead the way, but it requires a partnership with you.”

Addressing stakeholders at the event, including the Traditional Prime Minister of Awka, Engineer Benjamin Okoye, President-General of the town union, Chief Fred Chinwuba, and members of the prestigious Ọzọ Awka society, the governor stressed the importance of preserving the cultural identity of the capital city through enduring infrastructure.

Soludo maintained that stable leadership and unity remain essential to achieving sustainable development in Awka.

“In Igbo land, it is a taboo to have two kings in the same community,” he stated.

The governor also described peace and cooperation as necessary foundations for the transformation of the state capital, noting that his administration remains committed to rebuilding Awka.

Earlier, Chief Fred Chinwuba and Engineer Benjamin Okoye commended the governor for his developmental vision for Awka and pledged the support of the community toward the successful realisation of the proposed palace project and other infrastructure initiatives across the city.
