Soludo pledges teachers’ recruitment, prioritises education, health

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has pledged the immediate recruitment of more teachers into public schools in Anambra State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prioritising education and healthcare as the foundation of the state’s long-term development.

The governor made the commitment during the 2026 Workers' Day celebration held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, where he addressed workers and labour leaders.

Soludo described education and health as the “twin pillars” of Anambra’s future, stressing that investment in both sectors would remain central to his administration’s agenda despite prevailing economic challenges.

He commended the resilience and contributions of workers in driving the state’s economy and highlighted ongoing reforms in the education sector, including large-scale infrastructure upgrades across public schools.

The governor also advocated what he described as development-oriented unionism, urging labour leaders to focus on constructive engagement that advances growth and stability. He reiterated that his administration’s policies are aimed at improving the welfare of all workers in the state, not only those in the civil service.

Soludo further outlined his vision of building a livable and prosperous Anambra, anchored on access to quality education and efficient healthcare delivery.

In his remarks, the Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Humphrey Nwafor, commended the government’s pro-worker initiatives, including regular salary payments, implementation of the minimum wage and the settlement of retirees’ gratuities. He, however, called for faster progress in improving working conditions across sectors.

The event was attended by senior government officials, including Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim and Speaker of the State House of Assembly Somtochukwu Udeze, and featured a ceremonial march past by trade unions and civil service groups.
