Tansian University Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations, Says Claims Are False

The management of Tansian University, Umunya in Anambra State, has strongly denied allegations of sexual harassment leveled against a priest associated with the institution, describing the claims as false, misleading and damaging to its reputation.

In a statement issued by the University Registrar, Rev. Dr Innocent Uke, the institution said no incident of sexual harassment involving the priest and any female student had taken place either on campus or elsewhere as alleged. It urged the public to disregard what it called “malicious and unfounded accusations.”

“The University hereby states clearly that no incident of sexual harassment involving the said priest and any female student took place either within the University premises or outside the institution as alleged,” the statement read.

The management also noted that a recent internal crisis reported within the university was unrelated to the allegations, adding that the matter had already been reported to the police for investigation.

According to the statement, “there was a little crisis in the university last week, which has nothing to do with sexual harassment. The matter has been reported to the police and the perpetrators are being investigated.”

Tansian University described itself as a faith-based institution committed to strong moral, ethical and spiritual values, stressing that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, including sexual harassment, intimidation or abuse.

The institution further appealed to members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could damage reputations or create unnecessary panic within the academic community.
