Trinity Sunday: Priest Urges Christians to Shun Jealousy, Embrace Unity

The Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Ologo, Enugu State, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ozor, has urged Christians to avoid jealousy over the spiritual gifts of others and instead use their God-given talents for the benefit of the Church and society.

Ozor made the call during his homily at the Trinity Sunday celebration in Enugu, where worshippers gathered to reflect on the Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity.

The cleric encouraged Christians to cultivate unity, love and mutual support, describing the Holy Trinity as the perfect model of harmonious coexistence.

He explained that the Trinity remains a central mystery of the Catholic faith, defined as one God existing in three persons — God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

According to him, the concept of “person” in Trinitarian theology should not be interpreted in human terms, noting that the fullness of God transcends human understanding.

Ozor said the three persons of the Trinity exist in perfect unity and love, carrying out distinct roles without conflict or division.

“The Father is the Creator, the Son is the Saviour, and the Holy Spirit is the Comforter.

“Each plays a distinct role while remaining one in essence,” he said.

The priest cautioned Christians against envy and unhealthy competition, stressing that every individual is endowed with unique gifts meant to serve the common good.

“Nobody should be envious of another person’s gift; use your own gift for the betterment of the community,” he advised.

He also expressed concern over growing divisions among Christians, lamenting that jealousy and misunderstanding often lead to conflict even among believers who profess the same faith.

Drawing lessons from the Trinity, Ozor urged Christians to embrace unity in diversity and work together for the growth of the Church and society.

“Just as the Trinity lives in perfect harmony, so should believers live in mutual respect and cooperation,” he said.

The cleric further noted that human beings, endowed with memory, understanding and will, were created to live in community and appreciate the contributions of others.

He urged Christians to reflect the unity and love exemplified by the Trinity in their daily lives and relationships.
