Workers’ Day: Nonye Soludo Hails Nigerian Workers as Pillars of National Development

The Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has paid tribute to Nigerian workers, describing them as the unsung heroes whose daily sacrifices sustain the nation’s growth and stability.

In a message marking this year’s International Workers’ Day, Mrs Soludo lauded the resilience, dedication and quiet contributions of workers across all sectors, noting that their efforts form the bedrock of every functioning society.

She said May Day is a moment of reflection and recognition for “every hand that has ever held a tool, carried a load, typed through the night, swept a floor, nursed a patient, taught a child, or built something greater than themselves,” emphasising that no contribution is too small in nation-building.

According to her, labour remains the foundation upon which great societies are built, stressing that behind every institution in Nigeria lies the enduring commitment and dignity of its workforce.

Describing workers as the backbone of government progress and national development, Mrs Soludo said their sacrifices must be acknowledged beyond ceremonial observances.

“They deserve to be honoured not just on Workers’ Day, but every single day,” she stated.

She further called for stronger measures to protect workers’ rights and welfare, urging stakeholders to ensure that those who labour are treated with dignity, adequately compensated, and provided with safe and enabling working conditions.

Mrs Soludo reaffirmed the need for collective responsibility in advancing policies that prioritise the well-being of workers, noting that a motivated workforce remains critical to sustainable development and national prosperity.
