2027: Mbah’s Kinsmen Donate N50m, Endorse Second-Term Bid
The people of Idodo Zone in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State have endorsed Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in office and donated N50 million towards his re-election campaign, citing what they described as his transformative leadership and development strides across the state.
The endorsement came during a grand civic reception organised in honour of the governor by his kinsmen from Owo, Amechi Idodo, Amankanu, Ubahu, Oruku and Umuode communities.
Thousands of residents attended the event, celebrating what they said was Mbah’s contribution to the rapid socio-economic development of Enugu State within three years in office.
Speaking on behalf of the communities, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Osinachi Nnajieze, described Governor Mbah as a visionary leader whose administration had repositioned Enugu as a reference point for development in Nigeria.
“We formally say to you, with one voice and one heart: welcome home. It is a historical rarity for a community like ours to produce a son whose leadership has become the envy of states across Nigeria and beyond. In three years, Enugu’s profile as a sub-national and regional capital has risen remarkably, and that rise is a product of strategic leadership and deliberate planning,” Nnajieze stated.
He said the governor had translated his campaign mantra, “Tomorrow is Here,” into tangible development outcomes, citing major infrastructure projects, education reforms, healthcare expansion, water supply improvements, transport modernisation, security innovations and economic revitalisation initiatives.
According to him, communities within Idodo Zone have directly benefited from projects such as the 14.5-kilometre Amechi Idodo–Oruku–Amagunze Road and the ongoing 40-kilometre Owo–Ubahu–Amankanu–Umualor–Ikem dual carriageway, which have improved connectivity and opened up economic opportunities in the area.
He also highlighted the construction of 267 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state, the restoration of potable water supply in Enugu metropolis, the establishment of a technology-driven security architecture, and the ongoing development of a 300-bed Enugu International Hospital.
The community leader further praised the administration’s economic interventions, including the revival of key state-owned assets such as Hotel Presidential, Nigergas Limited and Enugu United Palm Products Limited, as well as the introduction of Enugu Air and the state’s transport modernisation programme.
The people of Idodo Zone also thanked residents across Enugu State for what they described as overwhelming support and endorsement of Governor Mbah ahead of the 2027 governorship election during recent political gatherings held across the three senatorial districts.
Responding, Governor Peter Mbah expressed gratitude for the reception and support shown by his kinsmen, describing the gesture as genuine and deeply moving.
“The love is palpable. I can feel it and I can touch it. What you have demonstrated here today is real, organic and not fabricated. It reflects the deep affection and confidence you have in our administration,” the governor said.
Mbah attributed his achievements in office to the values of hard work, resilience and integrity instilled in him by his people, adding that his administration remained committed to delivering sustainable development across all sectors.
“Today, we have not only built roads and bridges; we have also built confidence and demonstrated that the circumstances of one’s birth do not determine the limits of one’s future,” he stated.
The governor also urged the people of Idodo Zone to continue appreciating residents across Enugu State for their support and confidence in his administration.
Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included former Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji, represented by Hon. Ejike Anih; Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Hon. Sydney Edeh; Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Chinyere Okibe; Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih; Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Tourism Board, Dame Rita Mbah; former Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Pastor Sam Iyiogwe; and community leader, Dr. George Nwachi.
The highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of the revered Ofo symbol by traditional rulers of Idodo Zone, led by Igwe Godwin Arum, as a mark of confidence in Governor Mbah’s leadership and a symbolic endorsement of his continuation in office beyond 2027.
