Arthur Declares Bid for NDC Western Regional Chairmanship

Former Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. George Kofi Arthur, has declared his intention to contest for the position of Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), promising to strengthen party structures and deepen grassroots mobilisation across the region.

Arthur, who announced his bid in a statement on Friday, said he was seeking to succeed the current Regional Chairman, Nana Kojo Toku, and would work to reposition the party for greater electoral success.

Outlining his vision, the former lawmaker said his mission was to move the party “from addition to multiplication” by strengthening internal structures, promoting unity and eliminating all forms of discrimination within the NDC in the Western Region.

According to him, his leadership would focus on empowering women, young people, polling station executives and vulnerable groups while recognising the contributions of pioneer NDC members who helped build the party.

“My mission is to move the party from addition to multiplication by strengthening structures, boosting unity, and ending all forms of discrimination within the NDC in the Western Region,” Arthur said.

He added that special attention would be given to the welfare and inclusion of women, youth, polling station agents and vulnerable members of the party.

Arthur also pledged to honour and support pioneer NDC elders, describing them as the foundation upon which the party was built.

The former MP represented Amenfi Central in Ghana’s Parliament from 2005 to 2017 and is widely known within the party for his grassroots engagement and organisational experience.

A teacher, engineer and construction expert by profession, Arthur served in several parliamentary capacities during his tenure and remains an influential figure in the Western Region.

Supporters have described him as “the youth’s investor” and a bridge between party executives and grassroots members, expressing confidence in his ability to unite the party and strengthen its presence across the region.

Arthur, who hails from Wassa Agona Amenfi in the Western Region, said he was poised to lead efforts aimed at driving the NDC forward and consolidating its gains ahead of future electoral contests.
