The Enugu State Government has constituted a Caretaker Committee to oversee traders' welfare matters at the World Bank Section of Orba International Market in Udenu Local Government Area.
The committee, which took effect from June 26, 2026, will serve for an initial period of three months following the suspension of all traders' union activities in the section of the market.
In a statement signed by Mrs Lucy Harry-Enwu on behalf of the Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Enugu State, the ministry said the committee was established to maintain order, ensure compliance with relevant laws and procedures, and coordinate welfare-related issues affecting traders.
According to the statement, Hon. Henry Okpe will serve as Chairman, while Chief Patrick Obinna Ezema, Mrs Gladys Ifeoma Chidiebere, and Mr Onugwueze Ambrose Nwoye will serve as members.
It added that Mr George Onu, Deputy Director, Market Development and Export Promotion in the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry, will serve as Secretary of the committee.
The ministry directed the committee to discharge its responsibilities with diligence, neutrality, transparency and strict adherence to due process throughout its tenure.
It further instructed the committee to engage relevant stakeholders in order to promote peace, orderliness and the smooth conduct of commercial activities within the World Bank Section of the market.
The state government also appealed to traders and other stakeholders to cooperate fully with the committee to ensure the successful execution of its mandate.
