Soludo Declares End to Autonomous Community Disputes in Anambra

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has declared that the long-standing disputes over autonomous communities in the state have been effectively resolved following a recent Supreme Court judgement.

Governor Soludo made the declaration during a reception held in honour of his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), DSP Tony Amadi, at the Light House, Awka, where he addressed stakeholders on developments affecting community administration in the state.

He explained that the Supreme Court ruling has brought legal finality to the controversy surrounding the creation and recognition of autonomous communities in Anambra State, ending years of administrative and traditional leadership disputes across several areas.

For years, the issue of autonomous community status has generated tensions in different parts of the state, leading to disagreements over leadership structures and local governance arrangements. The governor said the court decision now provides clarity for government operations at the grassroots level.

Soludo noted that the resolution would help the state government streamline community administration and strengthen development planning, including in Isuofia, his home community, which had also been affected by similar disputes.

He said: “Autonomous community issues in Anambra are now dead,” adding that the Supreme Court has effectively affirmed earlier judicial decisions that resolved questions around the legal status of some communities.

The governor maintained that the development marks a significant step towards stabilising local governance structures in the state and ensuring that traditional institutions operate within clear legal frameworks.
