Two Suspects Arrested Over Murder Of 33-Year-Old Woman In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command says it has uncovered the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 33-year-old woman in Oraifite and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.

The suspects, identified as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20, were arrested by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, following sustained intelligence-led investigations and digital forensic tracking.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the case began on 13th March, 2026, when the deceased’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters. A day later, on 14th March, 2026, the lifeless body of an unidentified female was discovered inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite. The victim was later identified by her father as his missing daughter.

The Command said the case was subsequently transferred to the State CID, Awka, where investigators leveraged intelligence and forensic leads to track and arrest the suspects on 6th June, 2026. During interrogation, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, allegedly confessed to the murder, claiming he had been in a three-year relationship with the deceased and was unaware she was married. 

He further alleged that after a dispute involving the deceased’s husband, he developed an illness affecting his sight and later plotted the attack in anger.

He also confessed that on 13th March, 2026, he lured the victim to his residence under the pretext of seeking help, where he and the second suspect allegedly attacked her with a machete, leading to her death. The body was thereafter dumped in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite.

The police say both suspects have admitted involvement in the crime and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations. Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended detectives for what he described as their professionalism and resilience, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of crime.
