Anambra Gov't Urges Residents to Know Their HIV Status

The Anambra State Government has urged residents to know their HIV status, describing regular testing as a critical step toward preventing new infections, ensuring early access to treatment and achieving HIV epidemic control across the state.

The Executive Director and Project Manager of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), Dr. Nkem Okeke, made the call during an interview to commemorate National HIV Testing Day. 

He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to expanding public awareness and improving access to HIV testing and related healthcare services.

According to Dr. Okeke, "Knowing your HIV status is a gateway to HIV prevention, treatment and ultimately achieving epidemic control for HIV."

He explained that individuals who test positive can begin life-saving treatment early, while those who test negative can access appropriate prevention services to remain HIV-free. 

He added that regular HIV testing remains one of the most effective strategies for reducing new infections, improving health outcomes and limiting the spread of the virus.

Dr. Okeke reaffirmed the commitment of the Anambra State Government, through ANSACA and in partnership with healthcare providers and development partners, to expanding access to HIV testing, treatment and support services across the state.

He urged residents to embrace regular HIV testing, know their status and support ongoing efforts to eliminate HIV as a public health threat in Anambra State and across Nigeria.
