Enugu North Stakeholders Endorse Mbah’s Second Term, Laud Development Drive

Stakeholders from Enugu North Senatorial District on Sunday paid a thank-you visit to Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, endorsing him for a second term and commending what they described as unprecedented development across the state and inclusive governance in the Nsukka zone.

The delegation, led by the Deputy Governor, Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai, included prominent political, traditional, and community leaders such as the traditional ruler of Edem Ani and Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, His Majesty Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, and former Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo.

They praised the governor for facilitating the appointment of Professor Simon Ortuanya as the first indigenous Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, describing it as a historic achievement for the district. They also commended the state burial accorded the late Senator Okey Ezea, noting that it reflected Mbah’s commitment to unity and statesmanship.

The stakeholders said their support was based on what they termed “visible and verifiable achievements,” citing major investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and transport across the zone.

They highlighted the establishment of 102 Smart Green Schools and 102 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres in Enugu North, alongside the upgrade of the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS) with a teaching hospital and the appointment of 70 professors.

Other projects listed include the Nsukka interchange transport terminal, deployment of CNG buses, and major road works such as the dualisation of the Opi–Ugwuogo Nike–Abakpa Road and the Owo–Ubahu–Amankanu–Umualor–Ikem–Obollo Afor corridor. They also pointed to the near-completion of the Ama–Akama Oghe–Olo–Iwollo–Umulokpa road linking Uzo-Uwani to other parts of the state.

The group further commended the governor for federal appointments secured for indigenes of the zone and the revival of key state-owned assets, including Nigergas, United Palm Products Limited, Sunrise Flour Mills, and Hotel Presidential, Enugu.

They also referenced flagship developments such as the International Conference Centre, a five-star hotel, the 300-bed Enugu International Hospital, and the New Enugu Smart City, saying more than 3,000 projects had been executed or initiated across the state.

Declaring support for Mbah’s re-election bid, the stakeholders said no previous administration had delivered comparable levels of development in such a short time.

“In just two years, governance in Enugu has shifted from promises to measurable results, with Nsukka Zone standing out as a major beneficiary,” they said.

Responding, Governor Mbah thanked the delegation and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable development across all zones of the state.

He explained that the concentration of projects in Enugu North was based on objective factors, including its 102 electoral wards, compared with 81 in Enugu West and 77 in Enugu East.

Mbah said his administration remained focused on expanding road infrastructure and eliminating unpaved roads across the state.

“We do what difficulty demands. When we presented ourselves to serve, we made commitments, and we are determined to fulfil them,” he said.

The governor added that while over 350 roads had been completed within Enugu metropolis, more than 1,000 still required attention, assuring that Nsukka would be fully included in the ongoing road expansion programme.

He said urban renewal efforts would continue despite temporary disruptions, noting that modern markets were being developed to accommodate affected traders.

The visit ended with the presentation of symbolic gifts to the governor by Igwe Asadu, who also announced plans for the purchase of Mbah’s nomination form at a mega rally scheduled for 2 May 2026.

The delegation included former Deputy Governor Ezenwata Okechukwu Itanyi, former Senator Chukwuka Utazi, members of the National and State Assemblies, local government chairmen, senior government officials, and traditional rulers from the zone.
