Enugu Political Leaders Declare Support for President Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

Abuja, April 21, 2026 — Political leaders from Enugu State on Tuesday pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, following a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The delegation, led by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, said it represented the collective position of residents of the state. It comprised senior political figures, former and serving public officials, military chiefs, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and academics.

Among those present were former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former governors Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Governor of old Anambra State Jim Nwobodo, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, as well as former service chiefs including Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke and Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla. Some members of the delegation were accompanied by their spouses.

Governor Mbah said the visit was to express appreciation for the federal government’s engagement with the state and to reaffirm support for the President’s economic and governance agenda. He said Enugu State had benefited from federal-backed infrastructure and development initiatives, adding that reforms were beginning to yield visible results.

He also said the delegation’s declaration of support reflected a shared commitment to continued cooperation with the federal government ahead of the 2027 elections.

President Tinubu, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, welcomed the delegation and thanked them for their support. He said ongoing economic reforms were beginning to show measurable impact across the country, particularly at the subnational level.

The President cited improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and fiscal capacity of state governments, attributing progress to what he described as “difficult but necessary reforms.” He also commended Governor Mbah’s administration for efforts to tackle insecurity and drive development in Enugu State.

Tinubu said increased federal allocations to states had strengthened their capacity to deliver projects and urged sustained collaboration across all tiers of government.

Former Senate President Ken Nnamani, speaking on behalf of some members of the delegation, commended the President for federal interventions in infrastructure across the South-East, including roads, rail, and aviation projects. He said Enugu leaders expressed confidence in the current partnership with the federal government.

The meeting comes amid evolving political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with increasing signals of cross-party cooperation among key political actors.
