Police chief calls for greater security cooperation

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has urged stronger cooperation and intelligence sharing among security agencies to improve national security.

He made the remarks during a visit to Ahmed Audi, head of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mr Disu said agencies must work more closely as a “unified front” to address the country’s security challenges.

“We often fight difficult battles in demanding environments, so there is a need to support one another,” he said, adding that better coordination would improve efforts to tackle insecurity nationwide.

He described the visit as part of efforts to strengthen existing collaboration between the police and the NSCDC, both of which share responsibility for maintaining internal security.

In response, Mr Audi reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to joint operations, noting a long-standing working relationship with the Nigeria Police Force.

He said effective security depended on “collaboration, cooperation and coordination”, and called on the public to play a more active role by sharing relevant information with authorities.
